
The Technische Universität Dresden has about 34 000 students and over 8 300 employees, about 560 professors among them. In recognition of the TU Dresden’s emphasis on applications of science in both teaching and research, leading companies have honoured the university with currently fourteen endowed chairs. Furthermore, TU Dresden is the only university in East Germany that has been granted a cluster of excellence in Germany’s excellence initiative.
The Deutsche Telekom Chair of Communication Networks (ComNets) is led by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. h.c. Frank H. P. Fitzek. The main focus of the chair’s research is concentrated on the future generation mobile communications, the Tactile Internet, and quantum communication networks. The chair is leading the excellence cluster Tactile Internet with Human-in-the-Loop (CeTI). Furthermore, the chair is part of the fast2020 program participating in fast cloud, fast robotics, and fast optics. Bilateral research projects are currently carried out with (in alphabetical order) BMW Group, DE-CIX, Deutsche Telekom AG, Ericsson, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Nokia, O&O Software GmbH, Robert Bosch GmbH, Telemotive AG, VMware, and Volkswagen AG. Several projects are carried out with our partners from acticom GmbH, Chocolate Cloud ApS, Code On Technologies, Steinwurf ApS, and Wandelbots GmbH.
The Quantum Communication Networks research group (QCNets) is led by Asst.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Riccardo Bassoli. The main focus of the group is the research on how quantum technologies can enhance and be integrated in future generation networks.
