Internship opportunities at QIA
Do you want to be part of our moonshot mission of building the world’s first Quantum Internet?
Apply in one of the five available internship opportunities in Europe’s leading academic institutions, and gain first-hand knowledge and experience in enabling a European Quantum Internet ecosystem!
If you are a master student, a PhD candidate, a postdoc or a young professional studying or working at a university, research institution or a company in one of the eligible countries*, you may be qualified to apply to any of the opportunities listed below. QIA will support your internship with a maximum of 5,000 EUR to cover for travel and accommodation expenses.
This internship program aims to initiate or strengthen collaboration with universities, research institutes and companies in the eligible countries through offering internship opportunities for their students and young professionals.

Internship at ICFO
Host: Quantum Photonics with Solids and Atoms at ICFO, located in Barcelona, Spain
Opportunity open to: Master students active in eligible countries
As part of QIA efforts to build a quantum repeater, you will work in developing a printed-circuit board that contains all electrical components as plug-and-play solution. You will acquire hands-on experience with optical elements, radio-frequency electronics, laser systems, and fibers.
Internship at University of Innsbruck
Host: Quantum Interfaces Group at the University of Innsbruck, in Innsbruck, Austria.
Opportunity open to: Master students or PhD candidates active in eligible countries
As part of QIA efforts to build metropolitan-scale quantum networks, you will be working in integrating quantum frequency conversion into the existing two-nodes quantum network at Innsbruck. You will develop familiarity with a wide range of techniques in a quantum physics laboratory, including – trapping ions in ultra-high vacuum, – laser spectroscopy, – coherent control of quantum interfaces between light and matter among others.
Internship at TU Dresden
Host: Deutsche Telekom Chair of Communication Networks at the Technical University of Dresden, in Dresden, Germany
Opportunity open to: PhD candidates or young professionals active in eligible countries
You will be working in designing a quantum protocol to synchronize the network nodes and the Mobile Edge Cloud. You will acquire knowledge on network synchronisation, quantum synchronisation protocols for 6G networks and quantum-classical simulation and emulation, among others.
Internship at University of Parma
Host: Quantum Software Lab at University of Parma, in Parma, Italy
Position open to: PhD candidate active in eligible countries
As part of QIA efforts to develop distributed quantum computing (DQC) services that can run over a quantum network, you will be working on a research study regarding the benchmarking of DQC platforms. You will acquire knowledge on benchmarking approaches to DQC and the use of the NetQASM Software Development Kit, among others.
Internship at TU Delft
Host: Quantum Computer Science at Delft University of Technology in Delft, the Netherlands
Opportunity open to: Master students (can be part of a master project) active in eligible countries
In QIA, we have developed the world’s first full stack quantum network system, which allows programming of quantum network applications in high level software. In this internship, you will take part in developing a test suite to test the workings of such a full stack system and learn more about the requirements of implementing specific applications on quantum hardware.
Internship at LIST
Host: Quantum Materials Group at LIST
Opportunity open to: MSc students with experience in physics, optics/photonics active in eligible countries
As part of QIA efforts to develop alternative solutions for quantum processing nodes you will be working at the Quantum Materials Group at LIST exploring novel ways of fabricating nanophotonic circuits based on Silicon vacancies colour centres in Silicon Carbide. You will work on photonic simulations to identify ideal parameters for SiC waveguides, fibre-couplers, and Bragg reflectors.
